During the December of 1900, a ship passing the Scottish island of Eilean Mor noted that its lighthouse was strangely unlit. When a party arrived to investigate, they found all three men assigned to the lighthouse were gone without a trace. While a rogue wave is likely to blame, such phenomena wasn’t scientifically recognized at that time, opening the door to all kinds of supernatural theories.

In my interpretation of this story, after being swept off the island, the lightkeepers meet their fate at the hands of predatory sirens adapted to the cold and dark waters of the North Atlantic.

To create an immersive sense of texture, I focused on depicting the power of the water through its churning shape and depth of color. The full-page ocean panels offer a distinct contrast to the tight panels and smoky tones of the radio room.
