Hand-Sewn Patches
I worked with the theme of good luck, particularly with a wild west saloon kind of vibe–a nod to my hailing from, and love for, the American Southwest–driving the imagery of playing cards and eight balls. I created bespoke type for the buena suerte (“good luck”) stitching, inspired by old west cowboy-style typography.
Process
Inspired by garments made for kings and queens I’ve studied in art history, I set out to make something that a regal garment, but for everyday wear. I decided to translate my pen and ink drawings of tigers, creatures that are fierce and iconic, onto a garment.
I created the patches by hand, translating a hand-drawn pattern onto fabric and embroidering them manually with a needle and thread.
