Roam
App Prototype

The Problem: Vacation research can be slow – although the internet is full of suggestions, young adults trust recs from their friends more so than anything online. They also, however, value flexibility of simply googling activities nearby once they’re there. How can we streamline the travel research process?

The Solution: Roam lets friends contribute their favorite restaurants, sightseeing spots, and other activities to a shared searchable map, giving users the trustworthiness of personal recs with the on-the-fly convenience of social media research.

Process

Through surveys and interviews I conducted, we learned Gen Z researches their vacations by asking their friends for recommendations and by searching TikTok, avoiding rambling travel blogs and articles. So, we designed a user flow that was the best of both worlds.
Early iterations of the “add review” flow we created for user testing.
I conducted surveys and interviews, then compiled them into a punch list of functions that we used to begin wireframing.
We built out a branding system that would spark joy and reflect the excitement of travel and sharing suggestions with friends.
